Go west – Stop 2

We made it to Ireland. I can finally tick off the last country in western Europe from my list. After the first attempt in July failed graciously, it worked out now – but I’m sick. There is always something going on.

I left London from Euston station, where our journey ended last time. I was a bit sad, of course, because London and the Urbany Hostel have a special place in my heart by now. But it was time to move on. I took my seat in the train (which was not cancelled) to Holyhead and eventually entered Wales for the first time in my life. Listening to Welsh was really fun and I learned that it is pronounced Holly-Head rather than Holy-Head. On the way there I tried to find where I needed to go to check in. Zooming around on Google Maps, searching on the internet, but it turns out the terminal is directly in the trains tation and there is a bus shuttle to the ferry. That’s how you do it.

When looking at the wind radar beforehand, I was a bit scared, because I had all the stories of the rough Irish Sea in the back of my head. Turns out, very chill. The ferry to Iceland was wayyyyy worse. Even a train ride can be worse.

I started feeling sick though, when I was on the ferry. I tried to get enough to eat and keep myself warm as best as I could. When we finally landed in Dublin I took another bus into the city and a train to get to my actually-not-a-scam-very-fancy-indeed hotel.

And this hotel was everything a sick, shivering, hungry man with only half a pack of pasta and pesto to eat could wish for. It was warm, had a small kitchen and shampoo. Which was good, because I forgot mine in London.

I took a hot shower, made myself some pasta and slept for nearly twelve hours. Then I took another warm shower, ate the rest of my pasta for breakfast and made my way to Galway. But that is a story for another time.

I was feeling better already. I was really worried about getting really really sick. Which luckily, as of now, didn’t happen.

I like Ireland though. All the people seem very happy here.

Thank you for reading!
